The Facebook status message on the page of former Irish Times columnist was changed to refer to editor Geraldine Kennedy as a “cross eyed cow” last night, before the account was apparently deleted.
The message on Carey’s page on the popular social media website was changed to read “The cross-eyed cow can stick her column up her arse. I am moving on”, politics.ie reported last night.
The account was later deleted, and there are reports that Carey has said her website was hacked, although the Irish Star report on the incident says she refused to comment when contacted by them.
Carey resigned from her position as an Irish Times columnist last Friday, following criticism of her reaction to the Moriarty report, in which she featured. In 2004 she was interviewed by the tribunal about information from the tribunal which she leaked to the Sunday Tribune.
Carey has occasionally stood in for Vincent Browne and hosted the midweek Show on TV3, and also presents a Saturday morning programme on Newstalk, the national radio station owned by Denis O’Brien’s Communicorp.
